NI Human Rights Commission to launch report on Public Procurement and Human Rights

On Friday 28th February’ the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission will launch a report into public procurement and human rights.
The report outlines why government departments and other public authorities should integrate human rights standards into all public procurement processes.
The launch will include a presentation by Dr. Claire Methven O’Brien of the Danish Institute of Human Rights and a session on guidance developed by the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
John Corey’ Interim Chair of the NIHRC’ said:
“Public procurement is a major part of the Northern Ireland economy. It is important that we should consider the impact of procurement actions on human rights and further where procurement decisions could assist in improving the enjoyment of rights.
“With this report the Commission is aiming to engage government departments’ other relevant public authorities and private companies to address their human rights obligations and also to promote awareness of the important relationship between human rights and business in Northern Ireland.”
