Statutory inquiry into institutional child abuse

The Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission welcomes the announcement yesterday by the First Minister of an inquiry into institutional child abuse in Northern Ireland. In outline at least’ this statutory inquiry is the kind of ‘concrete action’ which was called for by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child and the UN Children’s expert (Special Rapporteur) as far back as 2006.
